I am having a problem chatting on facebook. Everytime I hit enter on the person name I want to chat to it kepts saying that someone else is not on line and is not allwing me to chat. I would appreciate any help
strange. what are you using to chat with your fb friends?
Long ago, I gave up on doing facebook chats on the web site. It's far easier for me to use an external client, like Adium on my Imac and Pidgin on my Linux box. If you run Windows, consider Miranda messenger. Like the other two, it has an available fb chat plugin.
I have to update my internet explore if I want to chat on facebook. I have inter 6 I have to up date to interner 8
You should update anyway. IE6 is old and insecure. Sort of like a teenager in a geriatric body.
No seriously you really need to update to IE8 and even if you're on Windows XP you're fine, provided you have at least 512 MB of RAM though a gig or more is obviously better.
I personally hate IE after 6. Too much nonsense in it and annoying things that just drive me crazy. But Firefox is very nice. Still, I don't think that chatting on the Facebook site is really possible even with that. There is, however, something called Facebook Chat. The only bad thing, at least with NVDA, is that it's a bit inaccessible. It doesn't make any sounds when someone messages you and I forget if the message window works well or not because I haven't used it in awhile. I loved Adium on the Macbook but haven't found a good replacement. I tried using Miranda and simply couldn't get the hang of it.
For windows users there is instantbird, made by the same people that make firefox.
www.instantbird.com
It's very easy to set up, but you do need to set up your username on the facebook site itself before you're able to chat with it.
The only thing I don't like about this client is there's not as much flexability as miranda, but you are at least notified when a message comes in.
Miranda, while a pain to configure is a lot more powerful than instantbird.
well, if you know how to configure it well it's not a pain at all. i've been using miradna for I wanna say almost a year now and have been using NVDA for almost a year myself. would reckamend miranda over any messengers like windows live messenger and even aim and yahoo becuase there is no addware or stuff liek that with miranda. I use a portible version of it, so if there is a problem, all I have to do is replace the folder with the working folder on my external drive and bang. am back in buisness. if I can be of any assistants in helping you set up miranda, please let me know.
Another option I haven't seen listed on postings above is using AOL's instant messenger, aim. It now links facebook to ame so that all your facebook friends appear in a group on your buddy list when they are online. The group will say facebook friends and the number of people online. I believe this feature was implemented in aim version 7.2. there are other options such as miranda, but like others said above, I think it is a lot more difficult to configure, especially with fb chat.
no it isn't. with miranda all you have to do is take the plug-in of facebook.dll and place it into your plug-ins directory and be sure it's loded, then you can just add your account and bang! there ya go. that's how i've got mine set up
I might try the Aim route I know I don't want to up date IE 8 because I try that and I could not get on line at all
